3) procedures, as prescribed in Annex 2, for pilots-incommand
of intkrcepted aircraft; and
4) a list of visual signals for use by intercepting and
intercepted aircraft, as contained in Annex 2; and
e) spare electrical fuses of appropriate ratings for
replacement of those accessible in %light.
4.1.3.2 Recommendation.- All helicopters on all flights
should be equipped with the ground-air signal codes for
search and rescue purposes.
4.1.3.3 Recommendation.- All helicopters ort all fligha

member seat.
Note.- Safety harness includes shoulder strapts) and a
seat belt which may be used independently.
4.1.4 Marking of break-in points
4.1.4.1 If areas of the fuselage suitable for break-in by
rescue crews in an emergency are marked on a helicopter, such
areas shall be marked as shown below (see figure following).
The colour of the markings shall be red or yellow, and if
necessary they shall be outlined in white to contrast with the
background.
4.1.4.2 If the corner markings are more than 2 rn apd,
intermediate lines 9 cm x 3 cm shall be inserted so that there
is no more than 2 m betwecn adjacent markings.
Note.-- This Standard does not lvqziire any helicopter to
huve break-irt areas.

Annex 6 - Operation of Aircraft Part I11
4.2 All helicopters operated as VFR flights
4.2.1 All helicopters when operated as VFR flights shall
be equipped with:
b) flying over water bcyond autorotarional or safe forced
landing distance from land in the case of performance
Class 3 helicopters.
a) a magnetic compass;
4.3.2 Emergency equipment
b) an accurate timepiece indicating the time in hours,
minutes and seconds;
c) a sensitive pressure &meter;
d) an airspeed indicator; and
e) such additional instruments or equipment as may be
prescribed by the appropriate authority.
4.2.2 Recommendation.- VFR flights wllich are
operated as controlledflights slrall be equipped in accordance
with 4.6.
4.3 All helicupters on flights over water
4.3.1 Means of flotation
All helicopters intended ro be flown over waler shall be fitted
with a permanent or rapidly deployable means of flotation so
as to ensure a safe ditching of the helicopter when:
aj flying over water at a distance from land correspondjng
to more than LO minutes at normal cruisc speed in the
case of performance Class 1 or 2 helicopters; or
4.3.2.1 Performance Class I. and 2 helicopters operating
in accordance with the provisions of 4.3.1, shall be equipped
with:
a) one life jjacket, or equivalent individual flotation device,
for each person on board, stowed in a position easily
accessible from the seat or berth of the person for whose
use it is provided;
b) life-saving rafts in sufficient numbers to carry all
persons on board, stowed so as to facilitate thejr ready
use it\ e.mergency, provided with such life-saving
equipment jncluding means of sustaining life as is
appropriate to the flight to be undertaken; and
c) equipment for making the pyrorechnical distress signals
described in Annex 2.
4.3.2.2 Performance Class 3 helicopters when operating
beyond autorotational distancc from land but within a distance
from land speciCicd by the appropriate authority of the
responsible State shall be equipped with one life jacket, or
cquivalent individual flotation device, for each person on
board, stowed in a position easily accessible from the seat or
berlh of the person for whosc use it is provided.

Note.- When determining the distance fmnz land referred
to in 4.3.2.2, consideration should be given to environmental
conditions and the avaibbility qf SAR facilities.
4.3.2.3 Performance Class 3 helicopters when operating
outside the provisions of 4.3.2.2 shall be equipped as in
4.3.2.1.
4.3.2.4 In the case of performance Class 2 and Class 3
helicopters, when taking off or landing at a heliport where the
take-off or approach path is so disposed over water that in the
event of a mishap there would be likelihood of a ditching, at
least the equipment required in 4.3.2.1 a) shall be carried.
4.3.2.5 Each life jacket and equivalent individual
floatation device, when carried in accordance with this 4.3,
shall be equipped with a means of electric illumination for the
purpose of facilitating the location of persons.
