CFM56 ENGINES (CFM56-7) 737-600/700/800/900 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL
77-31-00-214
Purpose
The SELF TEST menu lets you start an internal test of the AVM
signal conditioner. Any faults show at the end of the test.
General
To start the test, push the YES BITE switch from the SELF TEST
display in the main menu.
All pixels (segments) of the display will come on for several
seconds during the test. A pass or fail message shows after the
test is complete.
The display goes blank after a short time delay if the test
passes. Follow AMM, part 2 procedures to replace the signal
conditioner if the fail message shows. Component overhaul
technicians use the shop fault messages to determine
necessary bench maintenance.

CFM56 ENGINES (CFM56-7) 737-600/700/800/900 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL
77-31-00-215
Purpose
All AVM system external faults (messages) show in the
SYSTEM FAULTS part of the BITE menu. You also use this
main menu item to erase fault messages from nonvolatile
memory.
General
The AVM signal conditioner detects an external fault when it
loses valid engine N1 or N2 input. Tachometer failure or a
problem with the tachometer wiring to the signal conditioner
may result in an external fault.
One of two displays show after you push the NO switch from the
SELF TEST display. The NO SYSTEM FAULTS message shows
if no faults are in memory.
The X SYSTEM FAULTS SHOW? message shows if the AVM has
failures in memory. The X gives the number of faults in memory.
You use the YES switch to see the first fault message. Use the
down arrow switch to see any additional faults that are in
memory. Push the NO switch from any fault message to return
to the X SYSTEM FAULTS SHOW? display.
You erase all fault messages from nonvolatile memory when
you push the YES BITE switch from the ERASE SYSTEM
FAULTS? display. This display shows after you see the last fault
message.
When you enter the SYSTEM FAULTS menu, the AVM signal
conditioner also does a test to see if it can supply a balance
solution. If not, the NO BALANCE FUNCTION message shows.

CFM56 ENGINES (CFM56-7) 737-600/700/800/900 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL
77-31-00-216
Purpose
You go to SHOW FLIGHT HISTORY in the main menu to see
vibration data for the last 32 flights (cycles or legs) of each
engine.
General
The flight data is in AVM nonvolatile memory. Flight 0 (zero) is
the last flight. Flight 31 is the oldest flight in memory. After 32
flights, the oldest flight data is lost as the AVM signal
conditioner records the last flight data. You can not erase
flight history data from this part of the menu. See the ERASE
STORED DATA - TIP page in this section for more information.
You see this data for each flight (cycle or leg) of each engine:
* Highest fan vibration in scalar units (same units as on shown
in flight compartment on CDS)
* Highest high pressure compressor (HPC) vibration in scalar
units
* N1 and N2 speed (in per cent) at time highest fan vibration
happened
* Time from start of flight that highest fan vibration occurred
* Highest low pressure turbine (LPT) vibration in scalar units
* Highest high pressure turbine (HPT) vibration in scalar units
