Once in this position, the gun
can still be fired without having to
re-action the gun.
Prior to initiating AWS FD/LS check
(IBIT), ensure the pilot ground override
(PLT/GND ORIDE) switch is in
the OFF position. Failure to perform
this action may result in uncommanded
gun turret slewing or uncommanded
gun firing during a AWS FD/
LS (IBIT) manual abort.
If ECP 1206 (Mechanical Gun Stops)
is installed, but not ECP 1251 (Electronic
Gun Stops), the M230E1 AWS
may be used with the following restrictions:
If external tanks are installed, limit
AWS azimuth travel to ± 45 degrees.
If external tanks are not installed,
limit AWS azimuth travel to ± 70
degrees.
If both ECPs are installed, the AWS is
not restricted when external tanks
are mounted.
If neither ECP is installed, the AWS is
restricted from use when external
tanks are mounted.
4.8.1 AWS Dynamic Harmonization m /m. Dynamic
harmonization is the capability of the flight crew
to apply an in flight boresight correction procedure. Dynamic
harmonization corrects for AWS system variations
and firing characteristics for different aircraft
and AWS combinations. The procedure involves livefire
of the 30mm gun to fine tune the system in addition
to the CBHK static boresight.
Performance of dynamic harmonization is not a requirement
but a crews option. This procedure is not intended
to replace the CBHK static boresight or proper
AWS maintenance.
Any modification of boresight correctors must be entered
in the aircraft logbook. Correctors remain in the
FCC until changed via the boresight procedures.

4.9 AERIAL ROCKET CONTROL SYSTEM (ARCS),
2.75 INCH.
2.75 inch Hydra-70 Rocket configurations
(Fuse/Warhead/Motor), are limited
to the following flight conditions:
Firing of M439/M261/Mark 66 and
M442/M257/Mark 66 at ranges less
than 1000 meters and/or airspeeds
greater than 90 knots is not authorized.
The ARCS (fig 4-6) is a light antipersonnel assault
weapon. The ARCS consists of a rocket control panel located
in the pilots station and four station directors located
in each of the four wing station pylons. The ARCS
permits the pilot to select the desired type of 2.75 inch
folding fin aerial rocket (FFAR) warhead, fuze, quantity,
and range. The lightweight nineteen-tube launchers
can be mounted on any of the four wing stations. There
are three modes of firing rockets: pilot, CPG, and cooperative
(precision) mode. The FCC limits the fire control
solution to a maximum range of 6000 meters
(MK-40) and 7500 meters (MK-66).

4.10 POINT TARGET WEAPONS SYSTEM.
The point target weapons system (fig 4-7), commonly
called Hellfire, is the primary armament on the helicopter
for the destruction of tanks and other hard material
targets. It provides the capability of firing missiles
on the ground and airborne, at speeds from hover to the
maximum level flight speed. The Hellfire currently has
the tri-service type laser seeker. This gives the flight
crew the capability of two types of launches: lock-on-before-
launch (LOBL) and lock-on-after-launch (LOAL).
The type depends only on when the laser designator is
fired; before or after launch of the missile. The LOAL
type of launch can specify three prelaunch programmed
trajectories. The missiles can be launched in two types
of modes: normal, sometimes referred to as rapid; and
ripple. During normal mode only the priority channel
missiles can be fired. During ripple mode priority and
alternate channel, missiles are fired alternately.
The CPG has the capability to launch missiles in all
modes and types of engagements: RF ORIDE, NORM,
RIPL, MANL, LOAL, or LOBL. The pilot has the capability
to launch missiles in the following modes and
types of engagements: RF ORIDE, NORM, LOAL, or
LOBL. If the missile system is in any mode other than
NORM, including STBY, when the pilot “ACTIONS”
missiles, the missile system will automatically mode to
NORM.
