COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
The smoke detector operates on the principle of reverse
scattered light.
SMOKE DETECTOR
The light source, the labyrinth and the photocell are
arranged in a horizontal plane so that the photocell
cannot receive light.
But when there is smoke, the smoke particles reflect
and diffuse part of the light beam.
The photocell receives this light and gives an analog
signal and triggers the alarms.

SMOKE DETECTION CONTROL UNIT (SDCU)

COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
The SDCU has two channels, which make it a fail-safe
unit. The system will operate normally if one channel
fails. The Built In Test Equipment (BITE) detects and
isolates failures in the SCDU. It also makes sure that
the smoke detectors operate correctly. Most of the
system functions are monitored continuously.

CARGO FIRE BOTTLE (26-23-00)

COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
The fire extinguisher bottle is made of stainless steel
and is hermetically sealed. Fully charged, it weighs
15,65 kg. The bottle has two discharge outlets.
The extinguishing agent used is halon 1301, which is
nontoxic.
Each bottle has a pressure switch and a fill and safety
relief port:
- The pressure switch sends a signal to the SDCU
if there is not sufficient pressure in the
bottle (if the bottle is discharged or if a
leak occurs).
EXTINGUISHING NOZZLES

The cargo fire bottle has no FIN

COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
The fire extinguishing bottle is connected to the
extinguishing nozzles through pipes. One fire
extinguisher pipe connects the bottle with the two FWD
discharge nozzles and one pipe with the three nozzles
in the AFT cargo compartment. The nozzles are installed
in the cargo compartment smoke detector cavities.
Note that the cargo fire extinguishing system is
optional, independent for each compartment and
requires the smoke detection system.
