Civil Aviation Act 1988
An Act to establish a Civil Aviation Safety Authority with functions relating to civil
aviation, in particular the safety of civil aviation, and for related purposes
[Assented to 15 June 1988]
BE IT ENACTED by the Queen, and the Senate and the House of Representatives
of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:
PART I — PRELIMINARY
1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the Civil Aviation Act 1988.
2 Commencement
(1) Subject to subsection (2), this Act commences on the day on which it
receives the Royal Assent.
(2) Part III, section 98 and Part X, and the amendments made by Part IX,
commence on a day or days to be fixed by Proclamation.
3 Interpretation
(1) In this Act, unless the contrary intention appears:
AA means Airservices Australia established by the Air Services Act 1995.
aerodrome means an area of land or water (including any buildings,
installations and equipment), the use of which as an aerodrome is
authorised under the regulations, being such an area intended for use
wholly or partly for the arrival, departure or movement of aircraft.
