AUXILIARY FUEL TANK STRUCTURE - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
EFFECTIVITY
GJ B-2524
1. General
A.  A 391-gallon auxiliary fuel tank is installed in the forward section of the aft cargo compartment. A removable bulkhead is installed between the auxiliary fuel tank structure and the aft cargo compartment.
B.  The auxiliary fuel tank structure consists of one module which forms a cavity for the fuel cell which is secured within it. The structure is suspended from main deck floor structure by four attachment fittings secured to the upper corners of the tank. These fittings restrain vertical and side motion of tank (Fig. 201). Fore and aft motion of tank is restrained by turnbuckle braces extending diagonally from left and right body structures to each side of tank structure.
C.  Access to top of tank may be gained from above by removing main deck floor panels as necessary to reach forward top attachment fittings, fuel plumbing and tank vent. The rear side of tank and aft top attachment fittings are accessible after removing aft cargo compartment forward bulkhead.
D.  The auxiliary fuel tank may be moved aft for inspection and access or for removal by disconnecting plumbing and electrical equipment, lowering tank structure with fuel cell and interior plumbing installed, and moving tank assembly aft on ball mat rollers or their equivalent (Ref par. 4).
E.  In order to remove module from aft cargo compartment, aft cargo compartment door must be removed. Also, when module is to be removed, tank hanger fittings and drain pan must be removed.
F.  Paragraph 3 contains information on the preparation required for either removal, or shift for access, of the auxiliary fuel tank.
G.  Leakage check of auxiliary tank cavity is performed after installation and sealing of the cavity prior to installation of the fuel cell. The requirement of this check is that there shall be no evidence of leakage in the cavity (Ref par. 6).
2.  Equipment and Materials
A.  4 x 4 wooden timbers approximately 10 feet long to support the tank structure during assembly (2 required)
B.  Plywood shoring
