NOTE: Bolts are of varying lengths. Tag for installation location.
C. Install Main Cargo Door Forward Hinge (Fig. 401)
(1)
Prior to pin installation, remove dirt and other contamination from pin and hinge pin hole with air blast and/or round bristle brush. Remove grease and oil with general purpose cleaning solvent.
(2)
If any of the three short end hinge segments of the sill-mounted hinge are being replaced, they must all be replaced and the forward door-mounted hinge segment must also be replaced. Proceed as follows:
(a)
Position new 65-62223-502 hinge at installation position on doorsill and drill holes to mate with installation holes in doorsill.
(b)
Remove 65-62223-502 hinge segment and saw into three segments at existing saw cut locations. Prepare sawed surfaces per standard operator's procedure.
(c)
Position shims beneath hinge sections and install bolts (except for bolts common to weather seal installation).
NOTE: If reshimming is required, maximum shim thickness is 0.06 inch, maximum gap before clamp-up is 0.008 inch.
(d)
Install doorsill components at weather seal removed in step 3.A.(2).
(e)
Install door-mounted hinge segment. Shim per step (c) above.
(f)
Align door- and sill-mounted hinges with hammer or pneumatic hammer and install hinge pins. Lubricate hinge pins and hinge loop bores with grease prior to installation.
(g)
Install hinge end fairings.
(h)
Apply organic corrosion inhibiting compound per instructions in 51-21-91.
(i)
Complete installation of weather seal components removed in step 3.A.(2).
(3)
Remove the attaching bolts and the sling from the cargo door and replace countersunk screws in the cargo door sling attachment points.
(4)
Close circuit breakers opened in par. 3.A.(1).
(5)
Operate door through open and close cycles to check for proper operation.

MAIN CARGO DOOR EXTERIOR LOCK HANDLE - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
1. General
A. The main cargo door exterior lock handle has a shear joint with four replaceable shear rivets. In the event of failure of the handle at the shear joint due to the application of excessive manual force while attempting to unlatch the door, it is necessary to remove the door handle in order to replace the shear rivets. Paragraph 3 provides a door lock handle replacement procedure and par. 4 provides a shear rivet replacement procedure.
B. It should be noted that failure of the door handle at the shear joint indicates jamming or damage to the door lacking mechanism. The source of the jamming should be isolated before attempting door operation with a jammed door handle.
2. Equipment and Materials
A. Rivets - MS20426D6 (4 required)
3. Removal/Installation - Main Cargo Door Exterior Lock Handle
A. Remove Main Cargo Door Exterior Lock Handle
(1)
Prepare for removal
(a)
Remove door lining (Ref 52-32-81, Removal/Installation).
(b)
Remove door insulation (Ref 52-32-91, Removal/Installation).
(c)
Remove door heating blankets (Ref Chapter 21, Heating).
(d)
Depressurize hydraulic system B (Ref Chapter 29, Hydraulic Power).
(e)
Open main cargo door control circuit breaker on load control center P6.
(2)
Open door handle by depressing handle release trigger and either opening handle from outside airplane or, if not possible due to broken handle at shear joint operate mechanism from inside airplane to rotate handle or handle spline fitting to open position.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO OPERATE LOCK MECHANISM LINKAGE. ISOLATE AND CORRECT SOURCE OF JAMMING BEFORE PROCEEDING.
(3)
Restrain spring cartridge (7, Fig. 201) with clamp or other suitable device.
CAUTION: COMPRESSION FORCE ON SPRIN G MAY BE AS HIGH AS 180 POUNDS. THEREFORE, USE OF CLAMPING DEVICE IS RECOMMENDED TO PREVENT POSSIBLE INJURY.
(4)
Disconnect telescoping tube assembly (8) from handle shaft (6) at clevis.
(5)
Disconnect spring cartridge (7) from handle shaft (6) at clevis.
(6)
Remove nut (5) at bottom of shaft.
(7)
Remove shaft (6) by lifting up through fairing housing.
(8)
Remove lock handle (1) or handle spline fitting (4) if sheared handle has already been removed.
