WASHBASIN - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
1. General There are three types of water faucets used on 737 airplanes:
A. Turn-to-flow
B. Press-to-flow (ALL EXCEPT SABRE P/N 600380-2) self venting with individual internal components.
C. Press-to-flow (SABRE P/N 600380-2) self venting with internal components integrated into a
cartridge. All three types of faucets consist of a manifold, hot and cold self closing valves, a water spout, and possibly a drain plunger.
2. Repair - Leaking Faucets
A. Turn-to-Flow Type (Fig. 201).
(1)
Equipment and Materials
(a) Crane wrench - No. F10834
(2)
Remove Leaking Valve Cartridge.
(a)
Determine if hot or cold valve is leaking (feel faucet assembly and dripping water for temperature).
(b)
Close manual shut-off valve in water supply line or drain water system as applicable.
(c)
Remove valve handle.
(d)
Back up locknut against cap and unscrew valve cartridge from body of faucet.
(3)
Install Replacement Valve Cartridge.
(a)
Screw valve cartridge into body of faucet until metal-to-metal contact is made.
(b)
Tighten locknut until metal-to-metal contact is made.
(c)
Install valve handle.
(d)
Open manual shut off valve or fill water system as applicable.
B. Press-To-Flow Type (ALL EXCEPT SABRE P/N 600380-2) (Fig. 202).
(1)
Determine if hot or cold valve is leaking (feel faucet assembly and dripping water for temperature).
(2)
Disassemble leaking valve as follows.
(a)
Close applicable manual shutoff valve in water supply line.
(b)
Using a small diameter blunt instrument, press ends of hinge pins toward each other, until ends clear holes in faucet handle.
(c)
Remove handle, hinge pins, and spring.
NOTE: Do not allow spring force to eject hinge pins from position when removing handle.
(d)
Remove retaining nut then remove hinge block.
(e)
Using a spanner wrench, remove plunger assembly.
(f)
Remove plunger spring then remove plunger housing.
(g)
Remove and discard plunger housing O-ring.

(3) Reassemble valve as follows.
(a)
Assemble O-ring on float (if not already installed) and install float assembly into faucet body.
(b)
Assemble O-ring on plunger housing and install plunger housing.
(c)
Install plunger spring.
