D e f i n i t i o n s The United Kingdom wishes t o r e t a i n t h e use of t h e term rem
a s a measurement of r a d i a t i o n dosage and not s u b s t i t u t e the
term s i e v e r t . Information d i s p l a y s aboard t h e Concorde f o r
r a d i a t i o n dosage is c a l i b r a t e d i n millirems per hour. Crew
procedures r e a c t t o an " a l e r t " o r "action" a s necessary on a
pre-determined millirem per hour i n d i c a t i o n . Required
changes t o equipment and manuals is unnecessary and
expensive.

"The l e n g t h equal t o 11 650 763'.73 wavelengths i n vacuum of
the r a d i a t i o n correspondi.ng t o the t r a n s i t i o n between the
l e v e l s 2pI0 and 5% of the krypton-86 atom."
We have noted thak the amended d e f i n i t i o n of the basic u n i t
of l e n g t h , the metre, d i f f e r s from t h a t e s t a b l i s h e d i n the
SI system recommended by t h e General Conference on Weights
and Measures.. Use of the l a t t e r system is mandatory i n our
country under Decree No. 15.298 of 22 June 1982.
