Definitions The United Kingdom wishes to retain the use of the term rem as a measurement of radiation dosage
and not substitute the term sievert. Information displays aboard the Concorde for radiation dosage is
calibrated in millirems per hour. Crew procedures react to an "alert" or "action" as necessary on a
pre-determined millirem per hour indication. Required changes to equipment and manuals are
unnecessary and expensive.

Chapter 1
Definitions Uruguay uses the following definition for metre:
"The length equal to 1 650 763.73 wavelengths in vacuum of the radiation corresponding to the transition
between the levels 2p,, and 5d, of the krypton-86 atom."
We have noted that the amended definition of the basic unit of length, the metre, differs from that
established in the SI system recommended by the General Conference on Weights and Measures. Use of
the latter system is mandatory in our country under Decree No. 15.298 of 22 June 1982.
