the Emergency Lighting System.
The EMER EXIT LT switch has three positions: OFF, ARM
and ON. Each of these positions sends a discrete ground
signal to the two types of power supply units.
OFF
In the OFF position a ground signal prevents the
Emergency Lighting System from being switched on when
the AC and DC busbar voltages are not available. The
EMER EXIT LT OFF annunciator light comes on.
Note: The EXIT SIGNS come on with EMER EXIT LT switch
OFF, when the NO SMOKING switch is in ON position
or in AUTO position with landing gear extended.
ARM
In the ARM position the EMER EXIT LT OFF annunciator
light goes off.
When the 115VAC busbar voltage is not avalaible, the
cabin Emergency Lighting and the EXIT signs come on.
The power is supplied from the 28VDC/6VDC converter
in the corresponding EPSU.
When the 28VDC busbar voltage is not available, the
batteries of all EPSUs and Power Supply Units supply
the entire Emergency Lighting System for at least 12
minutes.
The batteries are no longer charged.
ON
In the ON position the Emergency Lighting System comes
on, as if the LIGHT EMER pushbutton on the Forward
Attendant Panel was pushed.
The cabin emergency lights, the exit signs and the
floor proximity lights come on. The power is supplied
through the 28VDC/6VDC converter in all EPSUs and by
the Power Supply Unit batteries.
If the 28VDC essential busbar voltage falls below 16V,
the EPSU and Power Supply Unit batteries continue to
supply the loads for at least 12 minutes.
The batteries are no longer charged.
TEST
Only the EPSUs have a test circuit which tests the
condition of the battery unit, the logic unit and the
related loads.
This test is first performed from the Programming and
Test Panel, but if the BAT OK or SYS OK annunciator
light does not come on, an isolated test must be
performed with the pushbutton located on each EPSU.

GENERAL
The emergency lighting system provides illumination
in case of failure of the main lighting system or
during emergency conditions.
The emergency light system is equipped with two types
of power units, one for cabin lights and signs, the
other for emergency escape markers.
The emergency lights are equipped with 6VDC lamps.
ELECTRICAL SUPPLY
One type of Emergency Power Supply Unit (EPSU) is
supplied with 115VAC and 28VDC where as the other is
only supplied with 28VDC.
EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY UNITS
Each type of EPSU supplies its corresponding lights
with 6VDC, either by transforming aircraft DC power
or from internal battery.
One type of EPSU has the internal battery charged
permanently by 28/6VDC transformer provided AC BUS 1
is powered.
