The smoke sensor is dual chamber ionization type of unit.
Operation
The power-on LED is ON when the smoke detector gets power.
The red alarm LED is ON when the sensor detects smoke. The
LED stays ON as long as the detector has power and detects
smoke.
The internal horn turns ON and stays ON as long as the detector
has power and the smoke sensor detects smoke.
Push and hold the interrupt switch to remove power from the
detector and to stop all indications. When you release the
interrupt switch, all indications will turn ON again if smoke is
detected.
Training Information Point
There is a filter inside the smoke sensor. It is necessary to clean
the filter periodically. You can remove the smoke sensor
without removal of the smoke detector. To remove the smoke
sensor, use a pocket scale to move the lock release lever. This
will let you take the sensor out of the smoke detector assembly.

Power
Bus 1 gives 28v dc for the lavatory smoke detection system. All
smoke detectors have a green POWER LED. The LED stays ON
when a detector has power.
Monitoring
The smoke sensor in each detector monitors for smoke density
above a preset limit. If the density stays above the limit for
appropriately eight seconds, the sensor set the detector to the
alarm condition.
Alarm
The alarm condition causes these indications inside of the
lavatory:
* The red ALARM LED on the smoke sensor turns on
* The horn inside the smoke detector turns on.
Reset
You use the power INTERRUPT switch on the detector to stop all
alarm indications and to reset the smoke sensor. The alarm
indications stay off after you release the INTERRUPT switch if
the smoke density is below a preset limit. If smoke density is
above a preset limit, then the alarm indications turn on again.
TEST
To test that the detector gives the alarm indications, you provide
smoke to the sensor.

Purpose
The APU fire detection system uses detectors on the APU. The
detectors monitor the APU for a fire condition. When the system
senses a fire condition, alarm indications operate in the flight
compartment. The indications are on the glareshield P7 panel
and on the engine and APU fire control panel on the P8. A bell
also operates in the flight compartment. A horn and a red light
operate in the right main wheel well.
