53 Contingent liabilities
(a) The Group leased certain properties and buildings from CSAHC which located in Guangzhou, Wuhan and Haikou,
etc. However, such properties and buildings lack adequate documentation evidencing CSAHC’s rights thereto. Pursuant to the indemnification agreement dated 22 May 1997 between the Group and CSAHC, CSAHC has agreed to indemnify the Group against any loss or damage arising from any challenge of the Group’s right to use the certain properties and buildings.
(b) The Company entered into agreements with its pilot trainees and certain banks to provide guarantees on personal
bank loans amounting to RMB292,586,000 (2008: RMB90,858,000) to be granted to its pilot trainees to finance
