FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE
The profit attributable to equity shareholders of the
Company of RMB330 million was recorded in 2009 as
compared to the loss attributable to equity shareholders of the Company of RMB4,823 million in 2008, mainly
due to the increase in revenue excluding fuel surcharge
income and the decrease in fuel costs, which exceeded
the drop in fuel surcharge income. Due to the decrease of
fuel cost, the Group’s operating costs decreased sharply.
The Group’s operating revenue decreased by RMB486
million or 0.9% from RMB55,288 million in 2008 to
RMB54,802 million in 2009 resulting from the decrease
in fuel surcharge income. Passenger load factor increased
by 1.5 percentage point, from 73.8% in 2008 to 75.3%
in 2009. Passenger yield (in passenger revenue per RPK) decreased by RMB0.07 or 11.5% from RMB0.61 in 2008
to RMB0.54 in 2009. Average yield (in traffic revenue
per RTK) decreased by 10.2% from RMB5.86 in 2008
to RMB5.26 in 2009. Operating expenses decreased by
RMB6,416 million or 10.4% from RMB61,767 million
in 2008 to RMB55,351 million in 2009. As a result of
the decrease in operating expenses, operating profit of RMB1,440 million was recorded in 2009 as compared to
operating loss of RMB5,646 million in 2008.
