NOTE: The BMS 3-28 will prevent corrosion on the threads of
____ the fasteners and make them easier to remove.
(e)
Install the screws through the panel along the forward edge of the panel.
(f)
Make sure that the space between the forward and aft edges of the panel and the adjacent honeycomb panels is 0.06 +/-0.03 inch.
(g)
Tighten the bolts directly forward and aft of the panel.
(h)
Tighten the remaining fasteners.

(2) Seal the panel joints.
(a)
Clean the space at the forward edge of the panel. Use a clean bristle brush applied with the approved solvent.
(b)
Remove the unwanted solvent with filtered air that has no oil or water in it from an air hose.
(c)
For the last step to clean, lightly apply solvent with a cloth.
(d)
Rub to make the area dry.
(e)
Apply sealant to the area between the panel and the honeycomb panel.

LIGHTNING DIVERTER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks. The first task is the instructions to remove the lightning diverter from the vertical stabilizer. The second task is the instructions to install the lightning diverter to the vertical stabilizer.

Remove the screws that hold the splice together.
(2)
Remove the screws that hold the lightning diverter to the fin tip.
(3)
Remove the lightning diverter.

(1) Install the lightning diverter strip:
(a)
Clean the faying surfaces of the lightning diverter strip and vertical stabilizer tip with solvent.
(b)
Apply the sealant to both faying surfaces to make sure there is sufficient squeeze-out along the full length of the lightning diverter strip.
(c)
Install the lightning diverter strip.
(d)
Make sure the lightning diverter strip fits flat against the vertical fin tip.
(e)
Install the fasteners that attach the lightning diverter strip to the vertical fin tip.
(f)
Apply even pressure along all the lightning diverter strip until the sealant is cured.
