Select Keys
Identified as 1L 6L
and 1R 6R,
provide
access to the onside
data for the left and right
data fields. The keys transfer data from the
scratch pad to the line next to key if acceptable
to FMGC. If a caret ( < or > ) appears next to
the key, selecting the key accesses another
MCDU page.
Fail / FMGC Annunciator
The Fail Annunciator illuminates when the
MCDU has stopped operating properly. The
display screen blanks, and "FMC FAIL"
appears.
The FMGC Annunciator illuminates when the
FMGC is not linked to the MCDU and the
FMGC requests the display. Return to the
FMGC via the MCDU MENU key.
MCDU Menu Annunciator
Illuminates when a system linked to the MCDU
requests the display. The system can be
changed with the MCDU MENU key.
MCDU Page Formats and Colors
Page Formats
Large Font Entry
Represents pilot entries or modifiable data.
Small Font Entry
Represents predicted, defaulted, or FMGCcalculated
values.
Line Label
Identifies the data displayed directly under this
label line (in small font).
Data Line
Contains box prompts, dashes, brackets and
computergenerated
data (displayed in small
font), or pilotentered
data (displayed in large
font).
Box Prompts ()
Indicates that data entry is required for
minimum FMGS operation. The data is entered
via the scratch pad and replaces the box
prompts when the associated line select key is
pressed. The box prompt entry appears in
large font.
Dashes ( )
Indicates that data entry is not usually required
or that data is being calculated by the FMGC.
The calculated data will appear in small font.
Brackets ( [ ] )
Indicates that data entry is optional.
Vertical Slew Prompts ()
Indicates that the latitude/longitude value
below the prompts can be increased or
decreased. The slew prompts also appear in
the last two spaces of the scratch [ad to
indicate that the display can be scrolled up or
down.
Asterisk ( * )
Indicates that pushing the applicable line select
key will change the parameters which affect
the airplanes active situation.
Page Prompts ( < or > )
Indicates that another MCDU page is
accessible when the associated line select key
is pressed.
Overfly Triangle ()
Appears next to a qaypoint identifier on the FPLN
page to indicate that the airplane must
overfly the waypoint.
MCDU Colors
The MCDU uses extensive colors to convey
specific information and to assist in
identification and recongnition of various types
of data. The colors used on the MCDU are
matched with flight plan data that is graphically

on the Navigation Display (ND). This
provides easy recognition of a particular type
of flight plan on either the MCDU or the ND.
BLUE
informs the crew that data entry is allowed.
Pilotentered
data is shown in large font and
FMSgenerated
data is shown in small font.
Blue information includes modifiable/selectable
data, entry brackets (no default data exists),
missed approach waypoints and active
alternate flight plan data.
MAGENTA
identifies constraints. Magenta information
includes VNAV altitude/speed/time constraints
that will be met, altitude/speed/time constraint
values and climb and descent speed limits.
GREEN
is used for FMSgenerated
data that is not
modifiable such as active flight plan data
(except "TO" waypoint and destination data)
AMBER
signifies that the item being displayed is
important and requires immediate attention.
Amber information includes VNAV
altitude/speed/time constraints that will be
missed, mandatory data, major scratch pad
message and "INSERT/ERASE" prompts.
YELLOW
indicates a temporary flight plan display.
WHITE
is used t
