Smoke And Fumes Evacuation AFM 4-23-10
If there is smoke in the cockpit or cabin area, take the following
steps:
1. Oxygen Masks (100%) and Smoke Goggles...........................DON
2. Start EMERGENCY DESCENT procedure, if applicable. If level
flight is necessary, maintain cruise speed. Notify ATC and consider
diversion to nearest suitable airport.
3. FLIGHT / LANDING Switch.................................................FLIGHT
4. If fire is present, see Fire In Cabin or Cockpit Area, page ED-5.
5. If no fire is visible in cabin and it is necessary to overcome smoke
or fumes, manually DEPLOY passenger oxygen masks, visually
check for deployment, and advise passengers to DON masks.
6. If smoke cannot be eliminated, depressurize cabin at 15,000 ft. or
lower by selecting MANUAL on AUTO / MANUAL switch and
turning manual pressure control knob clockwise to OPEN position.
If the smoke abates:
7. Cabin pressurization may be regained by selecting AUTO on
AUTO/MANUAL switch.
If smoke is coming through air conditioning system:
8. If cockpit-to-cabin door is available, it may be used to isolate smoke
source to either cabin or cockpit air conditioning system.

9. It may also be possible to isolate smoke source to either left or right
ECS / Engine bleed air system. Proceed as follows:
A. ECS Isolation Valve......................................................CLOSED
B. Left Bleed ............................................................................ OFF
If smoke continues:
C. Left Bleed ..............................................................................ON
D. Right Bleed .......................................................................... OFF
If smoke continues:
10. Emergency Descent .............................................AS APPLICABLE
11. Ram Air Switch...........................................................................ON
12. Left Bleed ................................................................................. OFF
13. If source of smoke or fumes cannot be positively located and
isolated, even though smoke has dissipated, land at the nearest
suitable airport.

Smoke In Baggage Compartment, Aft Galley, Lavatory
or Right Hand Avionics Bay AFM 4-23-20
If smoke is detected either physically or by smoke / flame
detector:
1. Oxygen Mask (100%) and Smoke Goggles ............................ DON
2. NO SMOKING Sign....................................................................ON
3. GALLEY MASTER / CABIN MASTER Switches ...................... OFF
4. FLIGHT / LANDING Switch.................................................FLIGHT
NOTE: If smoke is penetrating cabin area and there is no visible sign of
fire, manually deploy passenger oxygen masks, check for deployment and
advise passengers to DON masks.
5. Consider EMERGENCY DESCENT procedure, if applicable. If level
flight is necessary, maintain cruise speed.

NOTE: If investigating a right hand avionics bay (radio rack) detector
warning (for airplanes SN 1000 and sub with ASC 268, when installed),
remove the avionics bay cover to gain access to those compartments. If
there is no smoke apparent, investigate all compartments within the cabin
as the smoke may be originating in any area which exhausts air to the
outflow valve.
NOTE: Close all cabin doors between cockpit and baggage
compartment. It is permissible to leave baggage compartment door open
while locating and eliminating source of smoke.
8. Baggage Door Seal Depressurization............................PERFORM
A. Baggage Door Handle ..............................OPEN 45 DEGREES
(For airplanes SN 1000 thru 1155 without ASC 157.)
NOTE: Baggage door seal may be depressurized by rotating baggage
door handle 45 degrees. Do not open baggage door as it will impair
smoke evacuation.
B. Baggage Door Seal Selector Valve..................... EVAC SMOKE
