NOTE
This Airplane Flight Manual Supplement is only applicable to
airplanes 5500 and subsequent and airplanes incorporating
Service Bulletin 604–34–031.
1. INTRODUCTION
The data in this Supplement must be used when operating the airplane in Polar Regions.
These data complement or supersede data contained in the basic Airplane Flight Manual.
This Supplement must therefore be used in conjunction with the basic Airplane Flight Manual.
The effect of this Supplement on the basic Airplane Flight Manual is given in paragraphs
(2) to (7).
2. GENERAL
The general information in Chapter 1 is applicable.
3. LIMITATIONS
The limitations in Chapter 2 are applicable, except as modified by the following:
A. Navigation Procedures
Navigation procedures identified below are NOT supported by the FMS 6000 in Polar
Regions:
• Search and Rescue Patterns (SAR)
• Holding Patterns
• Terminal Functions (such as approaches and procedure turns)
• Radial and Abeam Based Fixes
• Place–Bearing/Distance
• Place–Bearing/Place–Bearing
• Along Track waypoints with Reference Fix.
NOTE
Attempting to insert these procedures will result in a “N/A IN POLAR
REGION” message on the CDU. For the purpose of these limitations,
Polar Region is defined as latitude greater than 89° north or south.
B. IRS Alignment
IRS alignment must be within the parameters given in the NORMAL PROCEDURES – IRS
Extended Alignment procedure in this supplement, in order to proceed with a flight plan within
the Polar Region.
C. Minimum Navigation Equipment
The following minimum navigation equipment is required for operations within Polar Regions:
• Dual FMS
• Dual IRS
• Dual GPS

4. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
The emergency procedures in Chapter 3 are applicable.
5. NORMAL PROCEDURES
The normal procedures in Chapter 4 are applicable, except as modified by the following:
A. IRS Extended Alignment
For best performance, the IRS system requires an extended alignment to be performed for
fifteen (15) minutes, between 73° and 82° (North or South).
NOTE
An extended alignment consists of allowing the system to remain in
align mode for at least fifteen minutes before entering present position.
The following lists the accuracy differences for a normal alignment below 73° N/S and an
extended (15 minutes) alignment between 73° and 82° N/S.

B. MAG/TRUE Transition
The FMS automatically transitions from MAG to TRUE when operating in the region bounded
by latitudes greater than 82.50 N, or when the latitude is greater than 73.50 N with a longitude
between 87.50 W and 122.50 W, otherwise known as the “keyhole region”. Whenever the
aircraft is operating within the keyhole region, selection of MAG is not possible. MAG must be
selected manually by the operator when the aircraft is outside of the keyhole region before
the FMS will transition back to MAG. Transition will NOT occur automatically.
NOTE
The pilot must follow the proper operational requirements for selection
