output when the signal specified at 2.3.2.2 above has a
carrier Irequency within 8 kHz of the assigned
frequency;

No. 71
Annex I0 - Aeronautical TeLcommunicutions Volume ZZI
b) in areas where offset camer systems are not employed,
the receiving function shall provide an adequate audio
output when the signal specified at 2.3.2.2 above has a
carrier frequency of plus or rninus 0.005 per cent of the
assigned frequency.
2.3.2.4 EfSective acceptance bandwidth for 8.33 kHz
channel spacing receiving installations. When tuned to a
channel designaled in Volume V, as having a width of 8.33
kHz, the receiving function shall provide an adequate audio
output when the signal specified at 2.3.2.2 above has a carrier
frequency within plus or minus 0.0005 per cent of he assigned
frequency. Further information on the effective acceptance
bandwidth is contained in Attachment A to Part II.
Note.- The effective acceptance bandwidth includes
Doppler shifi.
2.3.2.5 Adjacent channel rejection. The receiving function
shall ensure an effective adjacent channel rejection as follows:
a) 8.33 kHz channels: 60 dB or more at plus or rninus 8.33
kHz with respect to the assigned frequency, and 40 dB
or more at plus or minus 6.5 kHz:
Note.- The receiver local oscillator phase noise
should be suficiently low to avoid any degradation of
the receiver capabiliv to reject off currier signals. A
phase noise level better than minus 99 dBcMz 8.33 kHz
an,cql frorn the carrier is necessac to comply with 45 dB
adjacent channel rejection under all operating
conditions.
b) 25 kHz channel spacing environment: 50 dB or more at
plus or minus 25 kHz with respect to the assigned
frequency and 40 dB or more at plus or rninus 17 kHz:
C) 50 kHz channel spacing e n ~ i r o n ~ n5t0: dB or more at
plus or minus 50 kHz with respect to the assigned
frequency and 40 dB or more at plus or rninus 35 kHz:
2.3.2.7 Recommendation.- In the case of receivers
complying with 2.3.2.3 above used in areas where ofiet
carrier system are in force, the characteristics of the receiver
should be such t h t :
a) the audio frequency response precludes hamfil levels of
audio heterodynes resulting from the reception of two or
more oflset carrier frequencies;
b) the receiver muting circuits, if provided, operate
sarisfactorily in the presence of audio heterodynes
resulting fmm the reception of two or more @set cam'er
frequencies.
2.3.2.8 VDL - INTERFERIEMMNUCNIETY
PERFORMANCE
2.3.2.8.1 For equipment intended to be used in
independent operahns of services applying DSB-AM and
VDL technology on board the same aircraft, the receiving
function shall provide an adequate and intelligible audio
output with a desired signal field strength of no1 more than
150 microvolts per metre (rninus 102 dJ3w/m2) and with an
undesired VDL signal tield strength of at least 50 dB above the
desired field strength on any assignable channel 100 MIz or
more away from the assigned channel of the desired signal.
Note.- This level of VDL interference immuni?
performance provides a receiver perjiorrnnnce collsistent with
the influence of the VUL KF spectrunz mask as specljied in
Volume Ill, Part 1, 6.3.4 with an e.fJective transtnitttr/receiver
isolation of 68 dB. Better tralz~mitter and receiver
perfomnce could result in less isolation requi~d.
2.3.2.8.2 After 1 January 2002, the receiving function of
all new installations intended to be used in independenl
operations of services applying DSB-AM and VDL
technology on board the same aircraft shall meet thc
provisions of 2.3.2.8.1.
d) 100 kffz channel spacing environment: 50 dB or more at
plus or minus 100 kHz with respect to the assigned 2.3.2.8.3 After I January 2005, the receiving function of

2.3.2.6 Recommendation.- Whenever practicable, the to the conditions of 2.3.2.8.4.
rec~ivi-n ps -y. stem should ensure an e-f"f ective adjacent channel
rejection characteristic of 60 dB or more at plus or rninus 25
kHz. 50 kHz and 100 kHz frorn the assigned frequency for 2.3.2.8.4 Requirements for mandatory compliance of the
wceiv;ng intended to in channel provisions of 2.3.2.8.3 shall be made on the basis of regional
envimnments of 25 kHz, 50 Hz am' 100 kHz respectively air navigation agreements which specify the airspace of
operation and the implementation timescales.
