stations. Any operating parameters in the XIDCMD-HQ
(either modification or informational) shall be valid for the
transmitting station and for all ground stations listed in the
Replacement Ground Station List parameter, except thc
Airport Coverage Indication parameter and Nearest Airport
parameter which are only valid for the transmitting ground
station.
6.5.4.4.8.2 Gencrul aircraff response. The aircraft M E
shall respond by sending an XD-RSPHO with parameters as

set Timer TG5 after it transmits the XDRSP-HO. The
ground LME shall set Xmer TGS when it receives the
XID_RSP-HO. Although new traffic will be scnt over thc new
link, the old link shall not be disconnected jmn>ediiileJy ro
allow any old trafhc to be delivered.
6.5.4.4.8.4 Exceptional cases. I f the aircraft LME cannot
accept the handoff request, it shall respond with an
XU-RSP-LCR; thc current link shall not be affected. While
wailing for a response to an XID-CMD-HO, a ground LME
receiving any unicasted frame other than a TEST or an XID

from the aircraft shall retransmit the XTD_CMD_HO. If the
parameters in the XID-RSP-RO are not acceptable to the
ground LME, thcn the ground LME shall transmit a DISC to
the aircraft on the new link.
Note.- See 6.5.3.8 on the processing of an XIRCMD.
6.5.4.4.8.5 Recommendation.- If Colcnter N2 is
exceeded for the XID-CMD-HO, the ground LME should
attempt to handoff via another station before disconnecting all
links to the aircraft.
6.5.4.4.9 Ground-based requested aircraft-initiated
handoff A ground LME shall not perform this section with
aircraft that do not support handoff initiation.
6.5.4.4.9.1 Ground action. For the ground LME to request
an aircraft to initiate a handoff, it shall send an
XID-CWHO (P=O) on the current link with parameters as
per Table 6-51. The parameters in the XZD (both modification
and informational) are valid for all ground stations listed in the
Replacement Ground Station List. It shall only include
operational parameters if it also includes the Replacement
Ground Station List parameter. If the Autotune parameter is
included, then the Replacement Ground Station List parameter
shall apply to the new frequency.
6.5.4.4.9.2 General aircraft response. If the aircraft LME
receives the XID-CMD-HO, it shall commence an aircraftinitiated
handoff to a ground station, preferably one listed in
the Replacement Ground Station List parameter.

6.5.4.4.9.3 Exceptional cases. If the aircraft LME cannot
initiate the handoff, it shall send an XID-CMK-LCR (P=O);
the current link shall not be affected. If the Autotunc parameter
is included in the XID-CMD-HO (P=O), the aircraft LME
shall retransmit on the new frequency the XU?-CMD-HO
(P=l) using the normal retransmission procedures; otherwise,
it shall only transmit the XIL-CMD-HO (P=l) once pcr
received XE-CMD-HO (P=O).
6.5.4.4.9.4 Recommendation.- If Counter N2is
exceeded for rhe XID-CMD-HO, the ground LME should
attempt to request a handoff via another station before
disconnecting a11 links to the aircrafr.
6.5.4.4.10 Ground-bused reqlrested broadcast handofi If
the ground LME broadcasts link handoffs then it shall set the
"by bit in the AVLC options parameter 1; otherwise, it shall
set the "br bit to 0. If the ground LME supports broadcast
subnetwork coilncction handoff, the ground LME shall also
support broadcast link handoffs and shall set the "br and "b,"
bits irn the AVLC options parameter to 1; otherwise, it shall set
the "b," bit lo 0.
6.5.4.4.10.1 Ground action. If the ground LME supports
broadcast link handoffs, for each aircraft that indicates it
supports broadcast link handoff, thc ground LME shall
confirm the link handoff by including the Broadcast
Connection parameter per Table 6-51. If the ground LME
supports broadcast subnetwork connection management, for
each aircraft that indicates it support broadcast subrictwork
connection management, the ground LME shall confirm the
link handoff and the subnetwork connection maintenance by
including the Broadcast Connection parameter per Table 6-51.
6.5.4.4.10.2 Aircraft response. Tlie LME in each aircraft
