The door sills are lower than the adjacent floor area and
channel water to the door sill drains. The door sill drains direct
the rain water to the drain bladders.
When the airplane is on the ground, the drain valves in the
bladders are open and the water drains overboard through a
drain fitting on the bottom of the airplane.
When the airplane is in the air, the drain valves are closed and
the water that remains is kept in the bladders.
GUN 005-099, 101-118
When the airplane is on the ground, the sill drain check valves
are open and the water drains overboard through a door sill
drain fitting on the bottom of the airplane.
When the airplane is in the air, differential pressure closes the
sill drain check valves, and any remaining water is held in the
system.

Purpose
The door sill drains remove rain water from the door sill areas.
Location
There are two door sill drains at each entry and galley service
door.
Physical Description
GUN 001-004, 201-999
The door sills send rain water to the door sill drains. The rain
water is kept in bladders during flight and drains overboard
when the airplane is on the ground.
GUN 005-099, 101-118
The door sills send rain water to the door sill overboard drains
when the airplane is on the ground. During flight, differential
pressure closes a check valve in the system to prevent the
overboard drainage of water and the escape of air.

Purpose
The door sill drain bladder keeps rain water that has drained
from the door sill areas when the airplane is in the air.
Location
The door sill drain bladder for the forward door sill drain system
is in the EE compartment on the forward left side, outboard of
the E1 rack.
The door sill drain bladder for the aft door sill drain system is
behind the aft cargo compartment, aft of the water tank.
Physical Description
The door sill drain bladder has a top half and a bottom half. The
two halves of the door sill drain bladder are made of silicone
rubber. The two halves of the door sill drain bladder are glued
together to give a watertight seal. A valve assembly in the
bottom of the door sill drain bladder closes when the airplane is
pressurized to keep the water in the bladder.
The door sill drain bladder holds a maximum of one gallon of
rain water.
When the airplane pressure increases to two to five psid, the
valve in the bottom of the door sill drain bladder closes to keep
the rain water in the bladder during flight.
When the airplane pressure decreases to 0.25 psid, the valve
opens and lets the rain water drain overboard through the door
sill drain fitting on the bottom of the airplane.
