Purpose
The gray water system has these functions:
* Drains water and other liquids from the lavatory and galley
sinks
* Gives exhaust ventilation from the lavatories and galleys
* Drains rain water from the entry/service door sill areas.
General Description
The gray water system has these two subsystems:
* Waste water system
* Door sill drain system.
Waste Drain System
The waste water system collects the waste water from the
lavatory and galley sinks and drains the waste water overboard
through heated drain masts. The waste water system also gives
exhaust ventilation from the lavatories and galleys.
Door Sill Drain System
The door sill drain system collects rain water from the entry/
service door sill areas and drains the water overboard through
drain fittings.

Purpose
The waste water system collects the waste water from the
lavatory and galley sinks and drains the waste water overboard
through heated drain masts.
The system also gives exhaust ventilation for the lavatories and
galleys.
General Description
The waste water system has these components:
* Lavatory and galley sink drains
* Lavatory and galley sink drain vents
GUN 201-999
* Forward gray water drain valve
GUN ALL
* Drain hoses and lines
* Drain masts.
GUN 001-099, 101-118
The waste water drains overboard through the drain masts
when the airplane is on the ground and when the airplane is in
the air.
GUN 201-999
When the airplane is on the ground, the forward gray water
drain valve is open. Waste water in the forward waste water
system then drains through the forward gray water drain valve
and through the forward door sill drain fitting.
The forward gray water drain valve is open on the ground to
prevent water from being trapped in the drain hose that is
above the cargo compartment ceiling. This drain hose is in a
one degree nose down incline (away from the drain mast) when
the airplane is on the ground.
When the airplane is in the air, the forward gray water drain
valve is closed. Waste water in the forward waste water system
then drains through the forward drain mast.
The forward gray water drain valve is closed in flight to keep the
waste water from freezing in the forward door sill drain fitting.
Waste water in the aft waste water system drains overboard
through the aft drain mast when the airplane is on the ground
and when the airplane is in the air.
GUN ALL
Electrical heaters in the drain masts prevent the drain masts
from freezing.
