VERTICAL STABILIZER (FIN) LEADING EDGE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. General
A. The fin leading edge is removable in one piece.
NOTE: The lower section of the vertical fin leading edge is the HF antenna.
CAUTION: USE NONMAGNETIC TOOLS AND FASTENERS WHEN WORKING WITHIN 3 FEET OF MAGNETIC FIELD SENSOR TO PREVENT SENSOR FOULING.
2. Remove Vertical Stabilizer (Fin) Leading Edge (Fig. 401)
A. Open circuit breakers on P6 and P18 circuit breaker panel.
B. Remove screws from antenna access door on leading edge of vertical fin and remove door.
C. Remove nut securing electrical feed line tube to antenna conductor.
D. Remove fastener securing vertical fin leading edge to airplane structure.
E. Remove leading edge.
F. Inspect leading edge for aerodynamic smoothness (Ref SRM 51-70).
3. Install Vertical Stabilizer (Fin) Leading Edge (Fig. 401)
A. Verify that circuit breakers opened in step 1.A. are open.
NOTE: Fiberglass section of HF flush antenna on fin leading edge is covered with a rain erosion coating. This coating will require replacement, with frequency of replacement dependent upon operator's erosion environment.
CAUTION: METAL LEADING PORTIONS OF FIN THAT HAVE HF ANTENNA SHOULD NOT BE COATED WITH RAIN EROSION COATING BECAUSE OF LIKELY DENTRIMENTAL EFFECTS ON HF SYSTEM PERFORMANCE.
B. Place vertical fin leading edge into mounting position.
C. Align holes of electrical feed line tube and antenna conductor and secure with nut.
D. Secure leading edge to airplane structure with fasteners.
E. Tighten all fasteners, except uppermost six, 23 to 28 pound-inches. Tighten remaining six fasteners to standard torque value.
NOTE: Fasteners shall be installed flush within a tolerance of 0.010 inch below skin level and
0.002 inch above skin level.
F. Install antenna access door.
G. Close circuit breakers on P6 and P18 circuit breaker panel.

VERTICAL STABILIZER (FIN) TIP - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. General
A. The fin tip consists of a forward, mid and aft fairing. The mid and aft fairings may be removed separately, but the forward fairing must be removed before the mid fairing can be removed.
2. Remove Vertical Stabilizer (Fin) Tip
A. Open VOR/LOC-1 and VOR/LOC-2 circuit breakers on panels P18 and P6 respectively.
B. Remove fasteners from forward fairing and remove forward fairing.
C. Disconnect VOR antenna wiring.
D. Remove fasteners from midfairing and remove midfairing.
E. Remove fasteners from aft fairing and remove aft fairing.
3. Install Vertical Stabilizer (Fin) Tip
A. Check that VOR/LOC-1 and VOR/LOC-2 circuit breakers on panels P18 and P6 respectively are open.
B. Install aft fairing by installing fasteners.
C. Install midfairing by installing fasteners.
D. Connect VOR antenna wiring.
E. Install forward fairing by installing fasteners.
NOTE: All fasteners forward of rear spar shall be installed flush within a tolerance of 0.010 inch below skin level and 0.002 inch above skin level. Fastener heads are not to be shaved.
