NOTE
At decision height (DH), the numeric label and scale change from
green to yellow.
Ground Bar (Rising Runway)
A ground bar displays on the analog radio altitude scale to represent the terrain. As the airplane
descends through 200 feet AGL, the ground bar rises on the analog scale. At 0 feet radio
altitude, the top of the ground bar aligns with the center of the scale.

STANDBY INSTRUMENTS
The standby instruments include an airspeed indicator, altimeter, attitude indicator and compass.

Standby Airspeed Indicator
The airspeed indicator supplies non-corrected (indicated) airspeed. It uses the standby pitot
source P3 and the standby static ports S3.

Standby Altimeter
On aircraft not incorporating Service Bulletin 604–34–056:
The standby altimeter incorporates an altitude pointer and an altitude counter. The altitude
pointer and altitude counter operate through a mechanical linkage connected to a pressure
capsule. The pressure capsule move with changes in static pressure. Barometric correction is
selected by a knob at the bottom right of the instrument, and displayed in inches of mercury and
hectopascals. The instrument receives its static pressure from the standby static ports S3.

Standby Altimeter
Figure 11−10−29
On aircraft incorporating Service Bulletin 604–34–056:
The AD20 electronic standby altimeter provides measured barometric (corrected) altitude (see
Figure 11−10−30). The instrument receives its static pressure from the standby static ports S3.
The liquid crystal display (LCD) indicates the corrected altitude in digital format. The same
corrected altitude is displayed in analog format via a dial/pointer arrangement. When the INTEG
knob is set to OFF on the center LIGHTING panel, the AD20 standby altimeter offers high
contrast for daylight conditions. The standby altimeter has extensive Built−In−Test (BIT)
functions for safe operation.
The BIT functions operate on each power on, during constant operation, and also on demand. If
the BIT fails, Err is shown. If no failure of the standby altimeter is detected, all segments and
annunciations are shown for 1 seconds (see Figure 11−10−31) and the pointer moves counter
clockwise to detect its reference position. As a next step, the standby altimeter shows the
aircraft type (CL6), and configuration identification (8505) (see Figure 11−10−32). Finally, the
current pressure altitude is shown in imperial standard format (29.92 inHg/ft) (see
Figure 11−10−33).
The altimeter continuously operates to display the scale selected with the unit button for all
subsequent flights until the selection is changed again, on ground or in flight. The possible
combinations are hPa/ft, inHg/ft, hPa/m.
On aircraft incorporating Service Bulletin 604–34–010 and Service Bulletin
604–34–056:
The Service Bulletin 604–34–010 is for the installation of a metric altitude switch on the center
pedestal. When the METRIC ALT switch is set to ON, barometric altitude indications in metric
format (m) are added on the electronic flight instrument display (EFIS). On aircraft with Part C
of Service Bulletin 604–34–056 incorporated, the switch has an additional feature that sets
the AD20 standby altimeter to show the altitude in metric format (m).
