7 Transitional — application for registration of an aircraft pending
immediately before commencement of Part 47
(1) This regulation applies if:
(a) immediately before the commencement of this regulation, an application
for the registration of an aircraft was pending under CAR 1988; and
(b) the application was in accordance with Division 2 of Part 3 of those
Regulations as then in force.

(2) The application is taken to be an application for the registration of the aircraft
made, on the commencement of this regulation, in accordance with Part 47 of
CAR 1998 .
8 Transitional — registration marks reserved for assignment under
CAR 1988
(1) This regulation applies if, before the commencement of this regulation, CASA
had:
(a) reserved, under subregulation 16 (3) of CAR 1988, a group of symbols
for assignment to an aircraft as its registration mark; and
(b) given written notice of the reservation to the person who requested it.
(2) CASA is taken, for Part 47 of CAR 1998, to have assigned to the aircraft a
registration mark consisting of the group of symbols.”
2. Regulation 4 of the Civil Aviation Amendment Regulations 2000 (No. 5)
(SR 2000 No. 227) read as follows:
“4 Transitional
Despite the amendments made by regulation 3 and Schedules 4 and 5, until
the end of 31 August 2001 a requirement under either the Civil Aviation
Regulations 1998 or the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988 for an authorised
release certificate for an aircraft component is satisfied by an airworthiness
tag/release note (within the meaning of the Civil Aviation Regulations 1998 as
in force immediately before the commencement of this regulation) for the
component.”
3. Regulation 4 of the Civil Aviation Amendment Regulations 2001 (No. 4)
(SR 2001 No. 349) as amended by clause 1 of Schedule 1 of the Civil
Aviation Amendment Regulations 2002 (No. 1) (SR 2002 No. 79) reads as
follows:
4 Transitional
(1) Despite the amendment of the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988 (CAR
1988) by Schedule 2:
(a) an authorisation given under regulation 137 of CAR 1988 before
the commencement of these Regulations; or
(b) a permission given under regulation 259 of CAR 1988 before the
commencement of these Regulations, being a permission relating
to an unmanned free balloon to which Part 101 of the Civil
Aviation Regulations 1998 applies; or
(c) a permission given under regulation 260 of CAR 1988 before the
commencement of these Regulations, being a permission relating

to an unmanned fixed balloon or kite to which Part 101 of the
Civil Aviation Regulations 1998 applies; or
(d) a permission given under regulation 295 of CAR 1988 before the
commencement of these Regulations;
continues to have effect according to its terms.
(2) Such an authorisation or permission may be amended or revoked as if it were
an approval given under Part 101 of the Civil Aviation Regulations 1998.
(3) An approval given by CASA, before the commencement of these Regulations,
of an area as an area for the operation or launching of unmanned aircraft or
rockets continues to have effect according to its terms.
(4) An approval referred to in subregulation (3) may be revoked or amended as if
it had been given under Part 101 of the Civil Aviation Regulations 1998.
4. Regulation 5 of the Civil Aviation Amendment Regulations 2002 (No. 2)
(Statutory Rule 2002 No. 167) reads as follows:
“5 Transitional — persons holding certain licences
(1) In this regulation:
old licence means an air traffic controller licence or a flight service officer
licence issued under CAR 1988 and in force (or suspended) immediately
before this regulation commenced.
(2) A person who, immediately before this regulation commenced, held an old
licence (including a licence that is suspended) is taken to hold a corresponding
licence issued under Part 65 of the Civil Aviation Regulations 1998.
(3) A rating, endorsement or qualification endorsed on an old licence is taken to
continue in force for the period during which it would have been in force but
for that Part of those Regulations.
(4) A licence that a person is taken to hold under subregulation (2), or a rating,
