Definitions Additional definitions used:
Proper shipping name. The name to be used to describe a particular article or substance in dl
shipping documents and notifications and, where appropriate, on packagings.
Mass explosion. An explosion which is propagated to almost the entire load virtually
instantaneously.
Pyrophoric liquid. Any liquid which may ignite spontaneously when exposed to air, the
temperature of which is 55" C or below.
Explosive substance. Solid or liquid substance (or mixture of substances) which is in itself capable
by chemical reaction of emitting gases at such a temperature, pressure and speed as to cause
damage in the surrounding area.
This definition includes pyrotechnic substances, even if they do not emit gases. Those substances
that are in themselves not explosive but may produce an explosive atmosphere of gas, vapour or
dust are not included.
Pyrotechnic substance. Any mixture or combination of substances designed to produce an effect
by heat, sound, light, gas or smoke or a combination of these as the result of non-detonative
self-sustaining exothermic chemical reactions.
Chapter 2
2.4 For the purposes of the exception provided under 2.4.2, the request for exemption shall be filed in
writing, including the following information:
a) arrival or departure date;
b) airport of entry or departure;
c) route;
d) intermediate stops;
e) crew; and
f) shipper and consignee of the cargo.
In addition, background information concerning the class, type, quantity, origin and use of the
cargo shall be included.
Any dangerous goods that enter an aerodrome and are moved within it for the purpose of carriage
shall be supervised by the airport authority. For this purpose, such goods shall be kept separate
from other types of cargo so as to facilitate their rapid identification. Such goods shall be kept for
the least possible time on the airport premises, and all the related documentation must be
processed beforehand.

2 CHILE SUPPLEMENT TO ANNEX1 8 (THIRD EDITION)
Chapter 3
General The classification of an article or substance shall be in accordance with the provisions of the
Technical Instructions, which include the detailed definitions of the dangerous goods classes listed
above.
The order in which the classes are listed is not indicative of the level of danger.
Articles and substances not specifically mentioned by name in the list of dangerous goods of the
Technical Instructions and which may be included in more than one class shall be classified
according to the maximum risk they pose during transport, with the secondary risks specified and
the procedures in the Technical Instructions followed.
Dangerous goods not otherwise specified (n.0.s.)
The list of dangerous goods in the Technical Instructions shall contain collective entries under
which articles and substances not specifically mentioned by name may be handed over for air
transport. Such entries shall consist of the name of the risk class indicated in 3.1 or another generic
term, accompanied by the words "not otherwise specified (n.0.s.)".
Chapter 5
5.2 The packing shall be in conformity with the specifications of the Technical Instructions in respect
of material and construction.
